D44 high clearance shock mount plan

how does this look for my D44 shock mounts that I'm going to be modifying?

Looks like a shock mount to me.

I'd call Dan at ruff stuff and order up a set for like $7. Mount them facing up and you'll have a more profesional looking mount CHEAP to!!!!!
 
I made mine very simular to the pic in the first post. Only I used "U" steel and as suggested, kept it as close to the axle as possible. I used the "HELP" shelf shock mounts.

Structurally, the sides on the u channel should be mounted vertically, not horizontally, to resist flex in the mount when you suddenly drop the axle in a hole, or hit a bump (result is vetical force). As show, the mount is somewhat more capable of flexing up or down. Not likely an issue if the material is 1/4 inch thick, though.
