dana 30 into grand

We recently accuired a 93 grand cherokee ( 4.0 auto full time 4wd )and just found out it has a broken carrier in the front ( dana 30). I happen to have a complete, minus axles, 2000 Cherokee lp dana 30 in my garage. Can someone tell me if this is a direct swap or should I pull the carrier with the ring and pinion out and put it in the original Grand dana 30. The only difference i see is the grand has CV axles and the cherokee came with standard 297 axles? Thanx A Bunch Digger

One other difference is the ZJ uses cam
bolts for the front end alignment located on the
D30 housing(brackets) and the XJ uses spacers between
the lower control arms and the body mounting brackets.

Ok, I'm thinking it will be easier to replace the entire front end and slide the grand CV axles in than it would be , at least for me, to pull the carrier and reset the ring and pinion gear back lash. Anybody else want to verify this for me? Thanx Digger

why put the CVs in? if you have a complete XJ d30, just swap the entire thing, axles and all

Don't have the axles, they were put in my 91 for the ujoint upgrade.
