Transfer case compatability?

I'm driving a 93 sport w/ np231 tc and auto. My brother has two wrecked 97 grands with the np 242 and auto. Will I be able to swap his np242 in my 93 or is the spline # different. I'm curious because I might need a new tc and I can pull any thing from his 2 grands for free.

well i have been told they will if the spline count is right..... there is 29 splines or 31 splines if they match go for it
