Best way to manually clean valve body?

Well, my transmission hasn't been all to great when it comes to what it was designed to do. I was thinking about changing fluid,filter, adjusting both bands and replacing solenoids if they didn't check out. But what about the valve body? Can it be taken out and cleaned with solvent and low pressure compressed air? Just wondering if anyone has done this or have heard of it. Btw 89 laredo 4.0 aw4

What are the symptoms you are experiencing that make you think your transmission is not working properly?

Well, shifts are hard. When in power mode it shifts "ok" except for 3rd which is the hardest. When in comfort mode it shifts smooth until it get to 4th and then it just jerks into gear..really violent shift. I've tried adjusting the tv cable it didn't help.
