My check guages light is comming on What can this mean?

Also where should my thermosat reading be at, at it highest point before I start to trouble shoot things.

I woulod think in the red, but if all vital gauges aren't in the middle then thats probably the reason.

When the alternator died on my TJ the check guages light went on, when the check engine light goes on or flashes then u have trouble.
