What transfer case to look for???? want to buy xj

I have my eye on a 93 xj. The transfer case is a np231 but I am not sure if there is better. I am not locked on to this jeep so I can keep looking but in the perfect situation what would be my best choices for a transfer case???? Thanks for the help

Yep, 231 is the way to go.

242 is the Full Time 4wd TC. I hear it is not as strong. Also, I do not know of any SYE kits for the 242 (required when lifting). There is the hack-n-tap for the 242.

If you are looking for a rig to wheel then 231 is the way to go. If you are looking for a DD that will be for the wife then 242 is the way to go.

if u see a lot of snow get a np242 i have had both and like my 242 and I have a hack n tap sye on it so it can be done.

Good question, the tranfer case really is the heart of a 4x4.
I have really loved the options on the 242. On icy roads it is the bomb!!!

But if the rest of the rig was a deal I could live with the 231.
