Volt Gauge goes to 0 before start

I have a strange problem. I will turn the key on right before the click to turn the engine over.

the volt gauge will go up and some times it will go back to zero and the check gauges light will come on. seems to be intermitant.

If I start the jeep and drive for 10-30 seconds it will start reading 14v again. It stays strong at 14 volts when driving...and good a idle.

Anyone every heard of this problem?

Yeah, my 88 used to do that all the time.

I just never paid any attention to it.
