i am in the process of changing my heater core, it's an 87 4.0. an let me tell you it is a pita.

Yes, it is.

Both of my XJ's need AC service (likely cause is the infamous evaporator leak). Despite the position you are currently in, it sucks to be me!

I'm lucky I don't care about my ac I would be happy to just rip all of that crap out of it. (ac doesn't work but the compressor does)

Mice made a nest in my heater core box. Have sucked out all that I can and have tried blowing(leaf blower) out what I can. Think I got their lil nest, but now I'm trying to get rid of their stench, I really don't want to rip out the heater box...big PITA...getting to cold to be outside doing that kind of work.
