If i were to get just the body of an XJ, no doors, no hood, not even the rear hatch...

Whats involved? Is it simple as loosing all the cab bolts and swap on/off?.

Also, what years work? Ill probably find alot of older 80s body's in a junkyard.

About how cheap are they?

It is a unibody, there is no cab to lift off. You have to strip off the parts from one and move to the other. It is time consuming and a lot of work. I did a complete rebuild with only the main sheetmetal staying the same. It included the complete interior and all the wiring harness as well as a lot of the glass. It is a very sizeable job, especially for one person.

Your best bet is to call in all your markers and get a bunch of buddies over for a long Saturday. No beer until they are done.

If you've nothing but time, ready cash and a propensity for frustration, it's still not a great idea without a good understanding of what is all involved. Buy a working model...any year as long as it's roadworthy and meets your requirements...and you will find plenty to do to it to fill your time, empty your wallet, and fuel your frustrations.
