Dr. Dyno: thanks for the information.
my65289stang: The fuel-pumps.net web page doesn't give much specifics about the Walbro fuel pump for our 1989 Jeep Cherokee (4.0 l):

I did some searching on the web...
Here's some techinical information on Walbro pumps:
http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/html/fpspecs.html They say it has a pressure regulator, but I'm not sure if that's Jeep-specific (should be around 30 psi, right?) or if it's just to maintain an optimum flowrate for whatever application is desired.
This page talks about causes for Walbro pump failures (which I'm sure are true for other pumps, as well..):

During the search I also found that autopartsgiant.com offers a Carter fuel pump and strainer set which includes a Walbro pump, and the price for the set is around $80.26... less expensive than the fuel-pumps.net price... tempting. Although I'm a little bit confused if this is for a Walbro pump or for a Carter pump to replace the OEM where a Walbro pump was used... not sure. Price seems good, but not sure you get as much new parts as at fuel-pumps.net.
Also, I see that autopartsgiant offers a complete Airtex fuel pump assembly with sender and everything for $118.30... here's a picture of it:

Has anyone bought one of the Airtex pumps? Are they any good? Price for this complete "plug and play" assembly seems pretty reasonable considering I'd be getting all new parts.
I realize this thread has wandered all over the place... from Python Venom pumps all the way to Airtex... I'm just trying to get the best value on a new and QUIETer fuel pump for our son's 89 Cherokee. Based on searches here at
I'm thinking maybe that pump is on the way out... if the sound of it is any indication!
If anyone has insights to offer, please chime in. Thanks much, Rick
