muffler Q's

OK so I have searched and read alot about running cat-less, but what about running muffler-less?

A few months ago I lost my muffler out on the trail drove around the rest of the day. It sounded pretty cool burnt more gas, but think that might have been me driving it like a race car.

I am installing a new cat tomorrow to elimininate a running hot issue. Thinking about leaving out the muffler and just putting in a straight pipe in its place.

Wondering if anyone else has done this, or can offer any other ideas or suggestions

In California? How long do you think you will get away with that?

I found mandrel bent 2.5in Dynomax for 105. Not worth the risk of being hassled here in Ca.
