I pulled my old thermostat, and just for fun I tested it in 195 degree water. It opened, but since I've never seen this before I don't know how much it should open. It didn't seem like much of an opening.... MAYBE 1/8" all around... but probably closer to 1/16". Is that how far it's supposed to open?

IIRC, a 195 degree thermostat should start opening at 195, and will be fully open at somewhere around 205 - 215 degrees. It should open over 1/4 inch or so ...

Get one of those high flow ones by Robert Shaw. They sell them at Kragen/checker under the prestone name p/n 330-195.

It opens wider than the stock junk. My oven test, high flow on the left.
