factory gearing

the facts: 91 xj limited edition-4.0-aw4-np242-d30/d35c
does anyone have an idea what gears this would have come from the factory with. if it helps, the cherokee has the power tranny option. no tag, and was hoping to at least narrow down the choices.

also, with 31's, it will run 70mph@ a hair under 2g rpm

Well. I am a newb, but if the 70mph at slightly under 2k rpm with 31's is accurate, (I am guessing the tranny ratio in OD is around .72) I would say your gearing is around 3.08.

if the OD ratio is .75 it could be 3.55 rear gears.

If you can tell me what rpm it is running at a given speed in 3rd, or else the OD ration on the trans, I can tell you for sure.

I'm pretty sure this is how it went...

AW4 - 3.55s
AX-15, BA-10 - 3.07s
Tow package - 3.73s?

Someone feel free to chime in if I'm wrong...I'm sure you could have found this with a search though.

BTW, I think all XJs with the AW4 '87-'91 had the power/comfort tranny option. Once again I could be wrong...?
