Gas tank problems

What do you guys think? I recently when wheeling in Rowher Flats(a local SoCal spot) and while going up some of the steeper hills by jeep starts to cut off and on. It did this a few times. My fuel level was about a quarter tank if not a bit less. Today I go to my local Chevron and try to fill up but the jeep only takes 3/4 of the tank. I get home and start to look under the
tank and I see some dents. I havent removed the plastic cover but I could
feel a deep one in the center. Could this be the cause of my problems?

Sounds like a really good opprotunity for a problem to be.

Could easily be the problem. If the dent is in the center where the fuel pickup is, but not where the gauge float is, the gauge will say there's gas in the tank, but the fuel pickup will be above it.

When you replace the tank, either get another pickup or make sure that the old one is not bent, or you'll still run out when there's gas in the tank.
