OK, I must say that I haven't been posting my trials and errors as much as maybe should have been...
I did run all the 'fuse pulling party' test with both a test light and and multimeter without success all 4 times I did it (twice with each tool). Unplugging the alt overnight didn't do anything either.
the other night my amp stopped working mysteriously...I checked the power at the amp, and was not getting a complete circuit. I decided to pull the power wire for the amp out of the car to verify that it wasn'y chaffed or scrapde somewhere. Nothing found. I tested the wire before re-installing it to make sure it was working correctly then proceeded to completely re-run my power wire and re-gound the ground wire. This time I KNOW it was done well. Amp didn't work. Turned out to be the inline fuze...it's a nice phoenix gold barrel style fuse, that showed no sign of it being blown. I even tested the continuity and resistance of the fuse having the results turn up more/less perfect. But while installed, it didn't work. I replaced the fuse, boom booms are back in action!.
At this point I felt confident that the problem was somehow mysteriously solved. It ran all day yesterday without a singe problem with it draining amongst running various errands throughout the day.
Upon heading out for some Chili's last night... !! The battery had been drained out like before! AARRGG!!! BEing that it's now warm outside my GF went to roll down the passenger window, and it didn't work! but it WOULD work from my driver door (no, the window lock wasn't on). Once I got home, I messed with the driver door switch cluster...maybe something is shorted in the switch...when I wiggled it the button lights on the other 3 doors would come on/off. I left the switch cluster unplugged overnigth hoping to have a good battery in the morn.
NOPE!!! :smsoap:
So as I am dissapointedly removing the door panel to put the switch cluster back in, I remembered that recently that my driver door speaker would cut out occasionally when I opened the door, and thought it was time to check all the wiring in the door for anything not good. At first, I found some of the electrical tape near where the two harnesses come out of the door for the windows/locks/mirrors had been scrped up a little, but the wiring was OK. This prolly wouldn't explain the speaker problem, but was notable. I then continued down to where all the wiring was between the door and the car...wiggling this boot made my cpeaker come on/off.
So after pulling all the wirnig out, so I could look at the wiring, I found this:
After cleaning all this up with elec tape, and reassembling all, I feel a little better about what the problem may have been, time wilk tell.....
I think the reasons why the 'fuse pulling party' tests didn't produce anything and why this was intermittent from time to time was because opening and closing of the door may have made these wires short sometimes and sometimes not.
Hopefully this is the end of it as we are heading out for a 3 day camping/wheeling adventure this wekend, would hate to be stuck somewhere in the Rockies with a dead batt!
