lights dont work any more

i went mudding with my truck and got stuck so it had to sit overnight and when i first got stuck and tryed to back out the lights would go off in nuetral but would come on in gear (any). now my headlights dont work at all that was 3 days ago what happened?
This is an 84 with a 2.5l and a manual tranny
