Can a 1997 XJ front axle be mounted on 1995 XJ? - The complete front axle system? Both are 2 door sports with 6cyl. and 5 speed trannys. I know the 1997 is IFS and the 1995 is a Live axle - but everything else is the same. Thanks for any info.

Ummm...the 97 is not IFS. It is also a solid axle. Dana 30. Not sure if either is a low pinion model.

really - show what I know - I found a year by year comparsion off the net and it had the 1997 as independent front. So if it's also live then it should work.right?

every xj from 84-99 had a high pinion straight dana 30 "live axle" as you called it. i believe in 00-01 they started using the low pinion dana 30. in 92 they did away with vacuum disconnect, so anything between 92-00 is the same axle and will swap with whatever.

I put an '84 front axle in a '93 to gain 3.73 gears. I'll be switching it again soon for a '99 axle to gain 4.10 gears and larger u-joints (which were standard since '95).
