I can't understand why my 93' is running hot.

My stepson's 93 did the same thing. The plastic got soft - you could tear it apart with your fingers.

Could be caused by Oil in the coolent it time it will soften plastic.
Teflon will also cause plastic to break down.

I would say it is just the original valve, it lasted 13 Years and many hot summers. For the most part I thought I would post some canage.

I found that part VERY susceptible to breakdown. I went to three salvage yards looking for one and time after time the plastic would just crumble when I tried to take it off. I went thru 14 XJs before I found one that was in reasonable shape.
