i got a 90 xj with worn ball joints and u-joints on the front axle. and a donor 87 xj with the front in perfect shape.

any way of getting the working parts from the old to the slightly less old jeep fairly painless? like, would i be able to switch the axles? would that be less trouble than taking the whole hub assembly apart on both jeeps? (the donor has to be drivable afterwards, though it only has to drive a few kms)

thanks, guys

If the gear ratio's match I would swap the whole front end. Ball joints can be a pain to change. JIM.

JMHO - Replace the worn parts with new. It is not worh the trouble to try and save a few bucks. Changing ball joints is easier than swapping axles.

do you really want to swap out 17yo parts with 20 yearold parts?
so your self a favor and get some new balls and joints

thanks, guys!

it's actually rather a favour to a friend of mine. my old 87 will get scrapped and he has these problems with his 90. he doesn't have much money right now and was wondering if it could work.

i'll make him buy new parts...

(and i'm now wrenching on my 'new' 91 xj ltd...)
