Replacing Camshaft

Hey,

Question is, when putting a new cam in my '91 4.0 with 225k or so on it, must i replace the cam bearings too or can i just put the cam in. I have heard they are pressed in and that would be a real b*tch to have to do.

thanx,

Eric

You should always replace the bearings when replacing the camshaft. With the block in the chassis it is, indeed, a female dog of a job.

Why are you putting in a new cam?

Cams usually last as long as the bottom end of an engine, at which time the whole block is pulled and machined in a shop. The shop will *usually* press in new cam bearings as a part of the basic job.
