anybody know the size ( legnth thread and pitch ) of the u joint strap bolts on the chryco 8.25 and the D30. I think they take an 8 mm wrench.

The Dana 35 likes a 1/4"-28x3/4" socket head capscrew - I see no reason to believe they'd make that big a change over the years. Try that first.
Socket Head Capscrews are usually heat-treated to SAE Grade 8, and the small head means no interference with the bulge in the strap.
