High Pinion D30's

Was there a specific year or model that the HP D30s came in? How do i tell if i have a LP D30? Are their any distinguishing marks that will set the two apart? Anyone have any pics of a high and low side by side to note where the pinion actually is?

'99 was the last year for the Hp, and '00 was the first year for the Lp. If the pinion is at the bottom of the axle then you have a Lp........

Its sort of self explanatory. The DS comes in above the center of the axle on the high pinion. Below on the low.

all XJs are hi-pinion except the last few years of production, 00 and 01. its easy to get a visual on it. just look at the housing and you will be able to tell if the pinion is above or below the center line created by the axle shafts/tubes. the pinion is NEVER right in the middle of the diff housing, its either "hi" or "low".
