Coolant Gauge stopped working

Yesterday I noticed my coolant gauge stopped working. I checked the connector on the engine and I just saw one purple and yellow wire that was firmly connected. I then looked in the coolant tank and saw it was very low. Could that be a cause for not reading or just coincedence. Is there anything else to look at besides the connector on the block?

I learned the hard way that collant guages do not read air. make sure that there is no possibility that there is not any air in you system it is just so low that it will not read. If your pump and everything is alright and your tank is just low you may just need to replace the guage. If you are competent with a miltimeter you can read if the sending unit is bad.
