AC / Heater Control

89 xj i was just wondering dows the AC/Heater Controls light up ? and if they do not what should i check ? because mine do not light up so i have to flip the dome light on to see where the controls are ? and I have another question would a newer style ac/ heater control unit work with my jeep ? just a random thought ? HAHA

The a/c control has a replaceable light bulb in it.
Take off the dash and then the a/c control.
The bulb will be in a twist-lock connector on the right side.

And yes, you can replace the whole unit from a newer XJ - up to '96.

I just did this one. I recommend removing the Radio instead. Removing the heater controls is a pain if they have zap strapped any wiring to the bottom of the heater control. The bulb is accessible on the upper right as RTicUL8 said.
