Ball joint specs?

In my 1990 MJ I was messing around and figured id check my ball joints, they have some end play, but I looked for specs (Motor - Chilton adn ALLdata) and couldnt find specs for them. Is there supposed to be zero end play? How much is allowable?

They should have no "play". How did you measure them? IF you grab the tire at 12 & 6 and can wiggle it, and feel the movement at the ball joints...they are bad.

Theres no play there, if I lift the truck by the axle, then pry under the wheel, there is play there.

You'll want to have some one else pry on the wheel. Crawl under it and make sure that it's not a bad hub bearing.

Its both, but I can SEE the balljoints play.
