Rear Cargo Seat?

OK this is sort of a mod question. My buddy wanted to get a seat to fit in the rear cargo area to carry a fewmore kids. Well we found one through Kustom Fit that is suppost to fit Cherokees. Well the passenger side bracket fit according to their directions but the drivers side bracket doesn't. It needs to be moved over .75 of and incha nd is already hitting the fender well, so we would have to chop .75" off to even get it in the right spot. Then looking underneath it deosn't even look like you can bolt it up as the bolts are super close to the gas tank and a bracketsin the way. Called Kustom Fit as they say it should fit a 97 XJ and his a 98 XJ. They told me pretty much tough luck and they screwed up their years and to ship it back. Sorta sucks to spend 300+ and have two holes driled in your floor only to send it back. So has anyone put one of these seats in the rear of a 98 XJ, or are there any other companies that make these things?

i dont have a link handy to help you out but in some mail catloug i have seen for a few years a custom made to fit xj and a different one for zj's a back seat with head rests even i think and seat belts. Its either in quadratec., www.4wd.com aka 4wd hardware, or some cataloug i never have order from called performance products. It looked to be a good highquality design but i think it was way more than the $300 you listed.

I picked one up from someplace online (I'll find it if you want) that was intended for the Grand Cherokee, Yukon and Expedition but it was only $160 or something, so I figured I'd fab some way to make it work for that price. It has two steel slabs on the sides that mount permanently to the floor of the Jeep and the seat will slip in/out using a spring-retained quick release. It's actually pretty nice, I mounted it in backwards so the kids can look out the back window and they LOVE it. Pop the back hatch and they crawl in/out ok, but I'm thinking about making a step for the trailer hitch, it would be nice for accessing the rack anyway.

The only problem I have is that there is simply not enough room in the XJ for my wife & I plus 4 kids and a large dog. I still need a place for the dog....but I'm working on it. I think a side-mounted folding jump seat mounted across from the spare tire would be best for my needs.


EDIT: Here is the link, I'll get some pics posted of the mounting system also. For the price I couldn't see spending time making a YJ seat with a quick-release latch in any kind of decent time, so this was a better route for me.

Cargo Seat Pics-

Here are a few pictures- I pulled the entire thing back out of the Jeep last week because I have decided to mount it to a tool-box type drawer that I would like in the back to keep stuff out of sight. This will also raise the 3rd seat a little and let it slide back closer to the back seat (the factory one) and give a little more leg-room between the 3rd seat and the hatch for the squirts. I plan to build about a 6" high box with a drawer to store tow straps, jumpers, etc.

SCW, thats pretty much they same thing my buddy has, except the brackets are L shaped. I would think that your style is going to be hard to mount to the floor as theres not alot of room under the XJ in the area. Sure is alot cheaper though.

Just to throw an idea out - you might want to look at the third row seat for volvo wagons. It wouldn't save any fabrication, but it folds down into a rather compact package when not in use, and doesn't waste a whole lot of space on foam padding.

I'm, sure there are other similar options out there, but the jeep looks kinda like a volvo so of course I thought of this
