Door Closing Rattle

On my 98 XJ 4 door, when I close the rear drivers side door I hear a clunky type of rattle. Almost as if something is loose in there and bounces around. Its a one time thud. Close the door and you hear it bump once. It happens everytime. Been doing it forever, but I thought I'd see if any other owners have had a similar problem.

Yep. Had the exact same problem only on the passanger side rear.
I took apart the door interior enough to see that it was the interior-handle-to-latch mechanism rattling back and forth. I did NOT want to get all the way into the door (the rear is a pain) so I managed to stuff a piece of foam rubber (about 2"X2") between the bar and the inside of the door where it was making contact. No more rattle or klunking.
