What has what spline count, is it a 4 cyl vs the 6 cyl? Or is there another factor. I have a 98 Kee it had the 242 but now has a 231 but its makin some noises, which would it be and which ones will fit. Some guy say they are all the same and some say they are different.

23 vs 21 spline T-case

Your 98 should have a 23 spline tcase unless when the 231 was put in something got changed.Krawl said:

You also have to take into account the input shaft lengths. Those varied through the years as well.
AND while most 6 cyl had the 23 spline after about 1991...there are some that are still 21 with the auto tranny.
