Tranny cooler freeze...

gopking

NAXJA Forum User
Up here in Alaska when it hits about -30 or -40 in the winter, people who have auxillary transmission coolers start to have their transmissions overheat because the lines freeze up. I'm not a mechanic or anything, but do know a thing or two about how the cooler works and how to install one, etc. Is there some type of by-pass kit I can install on my '98 XJ when I install the transmission cooler so that it won't freeze during the winter?? Thanks.

The factory trans cooler is plumbed into the radiator, then into the aux tranny cooler. Reason being the radiator heats the t-fluid in cold weather!! a stand - alone unit might just get too cold in the winter!!
