Transfer case question

There is a plastic grommet in the shift lever where the control rod attaches.
It looks like the control rod has a cone at the atach point.
Looks like the control rod snaps in place in the grommet.
How do you diconnect and connect them?
Any trick or just brute force?

Pull 'em apart. The 'cone' you are looking at is simply a pointy shaft, similar to the end on a windshield wiper blade. You may need to lever them apart though with a wrench or screwdriver held in the middle of the angle formed by the two levers.

Thanks I was concerned that I might damage the grommet.
