2WD XJ to 4WD

Has anyone changed a 2wd to a 4wd? If I have a donor 4 wd, what other than swapping 4wd components over to the other vehicle is there(i.e. welding or fabrication work?). Just wanted to know before I got knee deep in it. TIA !!!
