engine preluber

Depends, what are you after? I'd use a "pressure preluber" (available from Sumiit, Jeg's, at. al.) with a pressure bag inside an oil bottle. The pressure bag would be compressed by operating oil pressure, and then the outlet would be cut off manually or electrically.

Then, the "preluber" would be opened by the driver (either with a manual control cable or an electrical vavle,) to pressure-feed the bearings before startup. Unlikle fuel pump - which only works or "primes" with the key on.)

Now, what, specifcallly, are you trying to do?

That typically requires a consultation with an electronics tech - trigger the valve when the fule pump primes, and meter the orfice to last >20 sec at residual pressure.

I ask again, what are you trying to do here? I'm just trying to make sure before I design something - especially since I'm not quite up to scratch right now.

Whatever you do, don't buy the commercially available one from the back of the rag-azines. We have had nothing but problems with these units. Constant leaks, bad electronics, NOISY pumps.

They do a fine job of pre- and post- lubing, but a simple sysem could be designed utilizing a hydraulic pump and electric motor along with a turbo timer to control pre-and post- lube timing.

On diesels, we set the pre lube at 20 seconds and the post lube at 4 minutes.

sorry to hijack, but why the post lube for 4 min, what is that accomplishing?

Usually for turbo's because they are still spinning down after the engine shuts down.

that and the turbo is so hot it might cook oil if it were allowed to sit in the bearings.

SO...has anybody tried installing one of these yet???

Trying to find ways to extend the life of my old mill, and eventually add to the longevity of a new stroker engine.

used one of these on my fsj for about 3 months. That was when the solenoid valve popped, running all of my oil out onto the highway. If I hadn;t been paying attention, I'd have lost my motor. Stay away from these. A properly maintained engine will not need one of these.
