1994 XJ speedometer: mechanical or electrical?

and whichever way, what do folks do to compensate for larger tire size changing what the speedometer reads from true?

TYIA,

Electrical.

there is a sensor in your t-case. In it is a toothed gear...you go numerically higher for bigger tires...try go jeeps website. He has the chart for just such an occasion.

Interesting... I went to jeeps.com, but couldn't find the link you mentioned... I thought I was going to have to buy an electronic doodad like this one: http://www.4wheelerssupply.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/1762

If you have the actual link for the toothed gear, I would be very much in debt.

Thats because its GoJeep's (surprised he hasn't chimed in) website not Jeep.com you were told to go to. http://go.jeep-xj.info/
He has a listing among his other tech articles of the gears w/ part numbers for larger tires, incidentally, I think they are just Chrysler parts intended for other vehicles w/ different stock tire/gear configurations. What size tires are you running anyway?
