OBDII Reader?

99xjache

NAXJA Member #1289
Is there anyone local to Thousand Oaks that has a reader I can borrow to check and clear a check engine light on my 99 xj?

Had some small issues last weekend, long story so I wont tell it.

TIA

Autozone, Kragens, Advance Auto, Checker Auto, they will all pull the codes for you for free.

Nope, not in CA. They will do OBDI but for some reason had to stop doing ODBII (if you're lucky you'll find a shop that still does it, but good luck....). ANyways a reader will run you about $75 and up and it's a good tool to own. I could bring mine up to Canoga Park if you want to swing by my work during the day tomorrow and I can pull the codes for you.

OK, I went to the Moorpark Autozone and they still let you use the reader. They just wont check it for you.

These are the codes that came up:
P0705- Transmission range sensor circuit malfunction
P1491- Manufacturer controlled auxilary emission control malfunction/
Secondary switch solenoid circuit malfunction

I checked the codes, then erased them. I started the engine, drove around the parking lot, (used all gears, aw4 tranny) and got the light again. Rechecked and only one code returned. the P1491 code.

Does anybody have any info on where I should start with troubleshooting or any more specific info on what the codes mean?

This thread should probably be moved to the OEM tech forum but I dont know how to do that.

Thank you guys for all the help!

No, I dont, but I'm still searching for any more info on the codes. No one in OEM tech wants to touch this thread. So it looks like Im on my own.

Thanks for the help guys.
