engine rpm surge

my 90 xj started acting screwy today. My rpm's would surge a little bit (2300-2400) then drop back to where they normally are at highway speed (2000). Also my radio would cut off then come back on after a few seconds. I don't know if they are related, but both symptoms started just today at the same time???

any ideas??
