interior lights won't cut off

Anyone else experience this? I have a 96 XJ. I've tried all the door switches and headlamp switches, but no luck. I can pull the fuse and they all go off from there. Any tips to help? Thanks.

The interior lights circuit works by switching the ground, not the hot line. You have a short to ground somewhere.

This response was probably in one of the threads Lou noted, but I had this problem on my 96 and found that the rear passenger side door switch had gotten "smooshed" at some point. When I closed the switch manually it worked, so I JB Welded a coin into the striker area of the door...and it works.

My 98's would not go off due to a 'feature', if you pushed the rear cargo light in so it clicked the lights would stay on. Must have bumped it with my head while I was putting in the OEM cargo mat and did not notice. Wasted 2 or 3 hours, wife found the 'problem' in the owners manual. :rattle:
