Hey
Ok I have a 8.8 out of an 97 explorer I tried to search but did not find what I need. What is the width difference compaired to a 8.25? I think its 3/4 inch shorter. I need to get some spacers for it and I am tring to figure it out.
Thanks

.. yes you are correct The width is almost the same. It is 1-1/4" narrower then the D35. This is a very minor draw back, and
will work if you have wheels with less back-space then stock. If you have stock wheel back-spacing,
there are commercially hub-centric wheel spacers available..1-1/4" hub centric wheel spacers is what you will need. Also if you are going to refresh your axle here is some information that you might need :Other Parts Needed
Brake pads (P/N 6674, AutoZone)
Calipers (P/N's C576 &C577, AutoZone)
Guide pins (2 - H15068, AutoZone)
Banjo bolts (Ford P/N 385116-S2)
Hoses (2 - NAPA P/N 380376 & 380528 )
E-brake cables (Mopar P/N's 52008904 & 05)
"T" Hose (P/N 380889, NAPA)
2 - Hard Brake Lines(NAPA P/N 813-1208 & 813-1204 )
Yoke Adapter (Spicer P/N 2-2-1379, NAPA)
Yoke bolts (Ford P/N N800594-S100).I also have a 1997 Ford Explorer 8.8 and am in the process of makeing some leaf spring perches and top plates. Just curious, what did you pay for your 8.8 ? Did you get a 8.8 axle new or used ?Good luck with your choice of the 8.8 axle exchange and let me know if you need more information.~BILLXJ

I just replaced my D35 with a 8.8 for about a month now and have not put any spacers on. It works great.

if you have anything over 4 in of bs with 12.50 tires you will need spacers.

I dont have spacers for my8 in wide 3.75 bs 35x12.5s however I carry a spacer for my spare which is on a stock rim

60" 8.8's exist

For what it's worth, I've found 8.8's that were 60" WMS to WMS. I'd check it with a tape measure before you spend the money for spacers.
