Throwout Bearing vs. Clutch Release Bearing

are these the same thing or are they two distinct parts? Everywhere I look in the aftermarket world says throwout bearing but the PM lists a clutch release bearing. Are they the exact same thing?

Yeah, 3 names for the same part: throwout bearing, release bearing, slave cylinder.
No, no, no, no, NO!

Clutch release bearing and throwout bearing are two names for the same thing. The clutch slave cylinder is something entirely different. What may be confusing you is that from around 1986 or 1987 through 1993 Jeep used a combination unit that incorporated the release bearing and the slave cylinder into one (impossible to replace easily) assembly. Prior to that, and again beginning in 1994, the slave cylinder was external to the bell housing and not part of the release bearing assembly.
