I drove my MJ 89 4.0 automatic today parked came out and it just
wouldn't start. well it started but was caughing and sputtering. if i
gave it gas it just made more on the same sound's. it was running but
sounded like the plug wires were switched around. I was able to pull
it into an open area, it cough all the way not getting much speed up
to make room for the a flatbed to pick it up. before calling for the
help was talking with a friend and I checked the air filter to see if
it was clogged with oil and it wasn't!
so I tryed again and it still would completly start. so I waited a
little longer and then it started.
any ideas hints? I did check that my line to the map was on all looked
good.
could this be a cps???

Doubt it's a CPS. A bad CPS results in a no start/ no run condition; it wouldn't start and sputter on you.

Check your vaccum lines. I'd also check fuel pump operation is normal. More knowledgable folks here can direct you on that. Good luck.

Sounds like mine did when I was having fuel pump problems.

Check the fuel pressure it should be 31psi. Next most likely thing would be the CPS.
