MJ trans question.

It's easy to tell from above. Undo the boot around the shifter and see if the tower has 3 screws (BA 10/5) or 4 screws (AX trans) holding it to the trans.

Its easier than that guys.

The peugeot tranny splits lengthwise in 2 halves, like a hot dog bun and is bolted together that way. The split between each piece will be at the bottom. The AX-15 has pieces that come off on each end, its innards are accessed that way. Just crawl under and look, if it can't be opened down the middle, its AX-15, if it can split in 2 down the middle its ba10/5. No removal of anything required.

Edit: Heres a site with information about all engines/transmissions used in jeeps (w/ pics). http://www.jeeptech.com/

It could be either as Jeep started using the AX15 mid-year '89.

The AX15 has a 1" thick intermediate plate between the front and rear case halves. The Peugeot has a right and left case half.
