I know when I open my moter I'll be gamblin' with the results. I just thought some others may want to play.
Story:
'89 4.0 190k on the clock.
Water hole was the infamus "damn I didn't think is was that deep".
I stalled out half way through it.
Winched it out.
Water in the air box. Slight traces of water in the air tube.
Pulled the spark plugs. Slight traces of burnt mud on electrodes. Cranked it, no water in the cylinders. No start.
Checked out all the electrical. All is well.
Compression is @ 65 psi and with oil in the cylinders @ 65 psi.
My bet is the timing chain or bent valves. What is every one elses bet?
I'll post it up when I open it.

Thanks for playing,

Guy

If a valve is bent you wouldn't get 65. I bet the rings are shot or the head gasket is history.

Right up till then it ran great. I think if it was the rings, when I put the oil in the cylinders the compression would have jumped up...But I 'm not sure most of ya's on this board have a lot more expirence with the XJ's.
