An odd squeak!

Well, I thought it was my brakes, but being brake-retarded, I had my mechanic check. He said it's not the wear-indicator squeal, and he has no idea what it is.

Occurs at about 5-10 mph, and is pretty loud. Sometimes it's constant, sometimes it's intermittent; stops and starts suddenly. It sounds EXACTLY like a 10-speed bike whose calipers are dragging.

Any ideas?

Sounds like wheel bearings going bad. If it is your going to be sure very soon.

I think I fixed it!

The backing plate behind the driver's side rotor looked like it was dragging juuuuust a little bit at times. I grabbed it with some pliers and bent it just a bit.

I also greased the front end for the first time (89k miles) tonight.

Wow. Quiet! Except for the Flowmaster 40....

No more subtle clunking, no more 10-speed brake noise.
