Tips for installing a tranny

Got to get a tranny in my truck. Any tips on how to do it without a tranny jack. I have a floor jack, but its one of the crap ass craftsman ones with the 2" diameter saddle.

Any tips that would help, any different ideas? Other than buying a jack.

When i converted my xj to 4wd i jacked up the front end pretty high and put it on some jackstands. Placed a jack with a piece of wood to distribute the weight under the tranny, after i had it unbolted, my father and i slowly lowered her down and slide the tranny out. The crappy craftsman floor jack will be fine. I used a crappy one as well and it worked better then nothin.

dont let the tranny hang by the input - that will warp things and fawk you over later...

Thats why I dont want to take a chance and just muscle it up there. I dont want to bend my brand new clutch and presure plate.

RENT a heavy duty trans jack. This will make the job MUCH easier.
