replacing ignition switch

How do you remove the ignition switch on a 90 xj with tilt? I need to replace it. The previous owner had a heep of keys on the key ring that wore out the tumbler and the ignition key. Thanks in advance for any help.

Just make sure you're going after the right part. The key lock (where the key goes...) requires removal of the steering wheel, so you can get at the lock screw that holds it in place.

The switch is about a foot down the column and on top, is held on with a couple screws, and is actually a lot easier to get to.

Sounds like you're going after the key cylinder. You'll need a steering wheel puller and a "lock plate" compressor to get under there...
