what can the clunk be???

i have an 89 xj and i have a single sometimes double clunk when i accelerate hard from a stop. not sure what it could be other than
maybe my u bolts. it sounds like it comes from the transfer case area,
but haven't been able to get anyone to help me out by looking underneath
for the noise. it will occur in reverse or forward even with the brakes held and throttle(powerbrake).
all suggestions welcomed and appreciated

Well, being that it is coming from the tranny/t-case area, my vote is for the transmission mount. If it's the original on an 89, it's probably just worn out. It could just be loose too; check the tranny-to-mount bolts and the mount-to-crossmember bolts for tightness.

Good luck...

thats what it was, i went to napa and picked up a new tranny/t-case mount
and when i pulled out the old one and compared the two ,wow the original was colapsed to almost half the size of the new one. thank you guys for your help.
