Removing tone rings and 760x joints

Finally got some new axles (297x type). Question is, are those tone rings just pressed on? Do I really need to remove them to put them in my non ABS '92 or can I leave them on? Also heard that you can put 760x joints in them. Are they a direct replacement?

760's are a direct replacement, spicer actually replaced the 297s with the 760s IIRC. i am running one up front with a tone ring, got spares from a 92 w/abs, popped one shaft and replaced it with that one. i dont have abs and it has been working fine to my knowledge

you can press them off but your dust cover from your old axle will not fit tight.well atleast mine didn't when i did my two.
