Wires in back hatch - what are they for?

There are several unconnected wires in the back hatch (89 XJ). I was wondering if someone could tell me what wires are for, other than to make me scratch my head???

First set of wires exit the bundle by the wiper moter.
1 grey ends with a female blade connector
1 black ends with a female blade connector

The second set of wires exits the bundle just above the drives side speaker.
2 blue - both end in one femaile round connector
1 grey ends in a male ground connector

The wires I have accounted for and are connected:
wiper motor
relay by wiper motor
license plate light
speakers left and right
rear window defrost

What gauge are they? Door lock???

The black and gray may be for the rear cargo light that is actuated by a switch that is part of the latch mechanism.

I'm pretty sure the black and gray female connectors will be for the courtesy light switch. If they're actually connected to the interior light circuit, you could try just bridging them together and see if the lights come on. If you do this with ignition off, there won't be risk of anything else blowing. The others I don't know. In the diagrams I've seen of similar years, the power lock uses tan and light green.

As stated above -- liftgate switch/light.

For license plate light relocation -- used when tire carrier installed.

Thanks a bunch. The lift gate switch wire might be able to be used to add and extra light in the back. I'll have to check that.
