Probably... that area didn't get reworked until '97 AFAIK.

The hatch hinges are completely different on a '97 or newer model compared to the older ones. Did you cobble it together by using the old hinges screwed to the newer steel hatch?

info says 84-96 will work. Only difference is the flavor (options).
