stock tire size??

i bought my 99 xj sport off an old couple 2 years ago and when i got it it had 225 75 r15 on it i just assumed they were stock tires. i had noticed that if i had some wate in the back the tires would rub when i hit a bump i just thought that my springs were saging and the shocks were going on it. today for some reason i looked at the sticker on the driver side door and it said that the jeep came with 215 75 r15. now i know that this is the stock size tire but im wondering if that is what came on it from the factory

im also kinda wondering how many miles are really on my jeep?
and does anyone know if i can get the spedo gear to corect this problem

I dunno about a '99 but my 2000 Sport came from the factory with 225/75R15s and I think the 99s did as well. 215/75 sounds like what they were putting on the SE models.

There is so little difference between a 215 and a 225 that it isn't worth trying to "correct" your speedometer.

exactly what eagle said. sports should have had 225's

even if the tires were 1" or so bigger than stock the speedo/odo would probably be MORE accurate if anything as they both read high from the factory

Judging from the unused spare, I'm going to say that my 2000 came with 225/70R16s.

All right ... when in doubt, go to the source: the 1999 Jeep Book

SE: Stock wheel 15x7, 6-spoke steel. Stock tires P215/75R15

Sport: Stock wheel 15x7 full-face steel (5 spoke). Stock tires P225/75R15 Wrangler RT/S OWL

Classic: Stock wheel 15x7 "Ecco" alloy. Stock tires P225/75R15 Wrangler RT/S OWL

Limited: Stock wheel 15x7 "Luxury cast" aluminum. Stock tires P225/70R15 Goodyear Eagle GA, black sidewall

The 225/75 Wranglers were also optional on the SE.

The metal plate in the door of my '99 sport says 215/75 but that trim, as mentioned above, came with 225s. I'm just guessing here, but maybe they designed it with a 215 in mind but bumped it up to 225 for the upgrades in trim. That plate doesn't specifically say that's what THAT particular Jeep came from the dealer with.

Did these sizes change in 2000? I heard that the Classics came out with 16" rims. When I bought mine with 72K miles, it had on 255/70/16. I know the tires aren't stock but I think the rims are.

Yes. For 2000 and 2001 the Classic and Limited came with 16" rims and 225/70R16 tires.
