fixing the gutter strips/rails

OK, I tore off today (or rather yesterday) both of them (right and left) and I got a fairly sharp edge sticking out.
I'm thinking about painting them to prevent corrosion and then installing something like this (Local AutoZone carries something for protecting door edges that would work perfect in this situation).

Any other suggestions as to how to clean it up fix it up (original gutter strips got damaged when they were forcefully removed on the trail).

a while ago i had an incident involving a roof-mounted spare and a low parking garage ... anyway, i had to replace both drip rail covers. i found them at a local junkyard for $5 a piece and they snapped right back on after massaging the pinch seam back into place.
